By way of Sullivan. If you haven’t seen this clip from Boston Legal, I think it catches the outrage we should all be feeling.  I also like the way it calls out the Democrats to be more outspoken about what has happen to us.

Earlier in the week there was some discussion about restoring habeas corpus as a rider on the defense department authorization bill.  I don’t particularly like the idea of its just being unobtrusively restored as if it were never taken away, but it might be the most practical way to get it done.  Matt Stoller has links for email addresses to key congresspeople to lean on to push this strategy.  Glenn Greenwald had a good post earlier this week recounting the sordid history of the MCA and the repsonsibility that Dems have to do something about it.  God knows we can’t expect much from Republicans, although you think Republican principles would demand it.  But since the Republican Party has become dominated by Southern reactionaries, traditional Republican principles count for little or nothing.

The blog commentary I’m aware of that laments the loss of habeas corpus has come from the liberal side of our political landscape.  Does anybody know of principled conservative sites (besides Sullivan) where there has been a push to restore it?
