Once again, for any of you who think the Democrats are in anyway presenting resistance to this drift toward authoritarianism, Jonathan Turley succinctly explains why not on Olbermann’s show. Since the program aired, the Senate voted down a bill "on a 45-43 vote, a Democratic alternative, which would have placed tighter controls on the spying and provided for independent assessments of the attorney general’s implementation of the measure," a bill that the President said he’d veto. I guess that’s all he has to say these days, because as soon as he says it, the Dems cave. But they were able to get sixty votes for the President’s bill. Our checks and balances system at work. It’s facetious. It’s about craven fear and how most of our legislators are ruled by it:
