Progressives: Forget about Movement Conservatives . . .

. . . and get your own house in order.

The problem does not lie in that movement conservatives do what they do.  We understand that. And yes, of course, it must be continually exposed and vigorously resisted. But the more fundamental problem lies in that, with some exceptions, progressives mostly complain about conservatives rather than getting organized and fighting back.

If Chuck Todd is right, and Obama really wants the Senate Finance Committee version of the bill, then he must be fought. I hope it's not true, but if it is, then he's no longer on the right side with regard to reforming healthcare. We must find ways to back the people who are willing to take him on–not from the left or right, but from all those who care about democracy. This is not a left or right issue; it's about whether the country is going to be ruled primarily to serve corporate interests or the public interest.

If Obama ok with or just doesn't care that he's abetting the former, I can no longer support him.  I am so sick of pols who think they are doing the smart thing, and that fighting for the right thing is unimportant. I supported Obama over Clinton precisely because I thought that he differed from her in that regard.  But we're getting from him the same tired Clintonian triangulation.  It's time for these pols to learn that it just won't work anymore; that it's no longer the smart move.

Once again, I refer you to the efforts of FireDogLake, which is trying to organize around keeping the 65 House Dems firm in their resolve to fight the president or anybody who is willing to jettison the public option.
