If Democrats continue with their right-wing conservative educational policies, they will alienate the teachers and teacher unions that have traditionally been the party's staunchest supporters. More importantly, these misguided policies and initiatives will deal a severe blow to public education and to the quality of the teaching profession as well as to the morale of our teachers. Unless you've been involved in the politics of education in recent years, to listen to Obama you'd think he was a standard, traditional Democrat on education issues. He's not. Sec. Ed. Arne Duncan's 'Race to the Top' is a neoliberal disaster, and that his policy is acceptable to a broad swath of mainstream Democrats is another indicator why the national Democrats are a disaster.
