My wife died a week ago Friday. We were married in 1978. She had been dealing with health issues all her life, and had been weakened by challenges she had to deal with this past summer, but this was unexpected. I'm in shock, and my head is spinning.
So I'm not sure how much posting I'll be doing here in the near future. But maybe I will get back to it to get my mind off things. We'll see.
Here's my eulogy for her given at her funeral mass 1/13.
Dear Jack,
Commiseration.
Your beautiful eulogy makes clear how much you will miss her.
On the other hand, remember how lucky you were to enjoy all those years together.
Nothing can take that away.
And remember too how lucky you are to have your religion to guide your thinking and feeling at this difficult time.
Good luck.
And try to keep writing.

Your eulogy for Ethel was deeply moving. I learned some things from what you wrote that I will not forget. We, your readers, have been blessed by her unknowingly by the ways she influenced your life.
Fierceness is not a quality often cited in eulogizing women. Not. being. conflict. adverse. is another not-oft cited trait for women. I know women are thus but in a testimony of your deep relationship you headline it.
It reminds me to savor my good friendships while I have them. You were a fortunate man to have known such a woman. Peace

In the midst of some deep reflection on what my Catholicism means and where it is going, I happened to stumble upon a few of your old posts – they’re just what I need by the way – and, inevitably I ended up here, at this sad, sad, beautiful, sad post about your wife, Ethel. So, please accept my condolences and my love. My third daughter’s name is Rosabel Mary Ethel, and my grandmother was called Ethel, so the name is close to my heart. It’s just a name, of course, but it’s a connection, and I feel your grief. Best wishes. James
