But though Obama's program is quite liberal, he doesn't seem to care much how it's achieved. A public option would be nice, but if it's not there, then that's fine, too. Full auction of permits is a good idea, but if most get given away to corporations, then that's how it goes. Infrastructure spending is good, but if tax cuts are the price of passage, then tax cuts there shall be. The best description of the administration's ideology probably came from Rahm Emanuel when he said, "The only nonnegotiable principle here is success." (Source)

Better than Bush.  That's all one can really say with conviction about Obama at this point.

    The cost of government is just too high! These people have benefits that the average American worker just will not see from their private sector jobs. Instead of focusing on how well the President performs his job, the American people should pay closer attention to the “crimes” committed by the United States Congress on a daily basis.

    I don’t know if I really want to reply to a non sequitur, but that’s not a meaningful statistic, Jim–most federal employees have educations and skill-sets that would be earning them more, not less, in the private sector.
    The $40,331 figure factors in college dropouts, so-called unskilled laborers, and all sorts of other people who are ineligible for federal jobs. Parts of government-job compensation do need to be reformed (there should probably be an absolute cap on pensions, for example), but being outraged over this is rather silly if you want the most important affairs of our nation to be handled with any degree of professionalism.
    To which the inevitable response is, “they’re unprofessional now!” Yeah, the politicians are, but your average attorney working for the justice department? I’m inclined to believe he’s a decent and skilled fellow.
