Some people have accused me of thinking that the American people are stupid.  I don’t believe that, but I do believe they have been fooled by people who are very skillful at it. However, I think that Americans once they have been made aware of the con, will not stand for it.  And that’s my hope as we move toward the midterm elections this November.

What’s clear, however, is that people like Bush and Rumsfeld think Americans are stupid.  The speeches they gave this week assume that nobody remembers anything they’ve said or done in the past.  I believe most Americans, now that they are paying attention. will not fall for this kind of nonsense.  It’s amazing to me that anything these people say is not greeted by the press with howls of laughter.  But no, they play along reporting what they say as if there was a reason to take them seriously and to believe that they have motivations other than to manipulate political perception.

By the way, if you really think this war was provoked by 9/11, read this letter to Bill Clinton written in 1998 by the PNAC neocons arguing that he should take out Saddam.  Note the signatories: Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Abrams, Armitage, etc.  Read this letter written five years before the invasion of Iraq which gives all the reasons the administration laid out in late 2002 and early 2003 for invading, and then tell me you can sit and listen to Bush say that this is a war that we didn’t plan for and "choose" before 9/11.  If you still think this war is undertaken in response to terrorism, then I just don’t know what to say to you.
