I find myself somewhat bored and uninterested in the new information about Bush’s involvement in outing Valerie Plame. It doesn’t tell me anything new or anything that I didn’t at least suspect to be true. I suspect that far worse things have happened, and that we’ve only just scratched the surface in learning about how bad things really are.
I think a part of me just is resigned to its making no difference that it has become a part of the public record. What’s going to happen? Americans will just chalk it off to politicians acting like politicians–what else is new? Of course Americans should be outraged, but they only allow themselves to be outraged when the Beltway Courtiers or the radio talk show demagogues whip them into frothing frenzy, as with Clinton and Monica.
And so the courtiers play along with the administration’s attempts to spin the whole business into irrelevancy, and most Americans will shrug their shoulders and get on with their lives. It’s like the latest news concerning Jen, Angelina, and Brad in the supermarket tabloids, irritating and irrelevant to the way we live our everyday lives. Why should anyone really care’m sure that’s the way most people who live in autocracies feel about their poltical leaders. Why care? Nothin’ I can do about it.
But even if there isn’t much you can do about it in the short run, for those of you who would like to put a little effort into understanding what really has gone down as opposed to how the administration and its courtiers are spinning it, Larry Johnson provides a timeline of events concerning the Plame outing over at TPM Cafe. Read it and judge for yourself if, as Johnson says that "there should be no doubt that President Bush is a bald faced liar and used his Office to attack Joe Wilson for trying to ensure the American people were told the truth about Iraq and its alleged efforts to buy uranium in West Africa.
